Edgar Sawtelle, born mute and speaking only in sign, lives on his parents farm in northern Wisconsin, where they raise a special breed of extraordinary dogs. Tragedy tears his family apart and drives him from the farm with three of the pups, where he must decide what to do about his family. This is a moving, lyrical, and compelling read.
